Every day people produce an endless amount of data. It’s about 2.5 x 1018 Terabytes1, and the trend is set to exponentially increase. How can such data be interpreted and valued? Technology can help of course, through big data and AI. However, new models are being developed to manage data in the most appropriate way, also taking into account the human factor and focusing on people, to understand their needs and how to meet them. Combining the two is the basis of Human Data Science, which this year will be the mainstay of the sixth edition of Open-F@b Call4Ideas 2019, the international contest featured by BNP Paribas Cardif, one of the top ten insurance companies in Italy2, in partnership with InsuranceUp.it.
Until October 28th, the Company is going to offer start-ups, scale-ups, innovative companies and young students the opportunity to come up with ideas to, alternatively, enrich the data value chain through Data Enrichment, understand people’s needs through data modeling or migrate the Customer Experience applying a Human Centric approach supported by data analysis. An ambitious goal by BNP Paribas Cardif offering a new approach to data reading with Human Data Science focusing on people, their different contexts, feelings and even irrational aspects.
Open-F@b is the core of BNP Paribas Cardif, a company committed to innovation, sharing, consistency and “knowledge” contamination. Over the years, the results are impressive: in the last five editions more than 300 applications have been proposed – half from abroad -, more than 60 innovative ideas have been selected, which have led to several collaborations and the implementation of at least one project per year, with a total investment of about 800 thousand euros.
The finalists of Open-F@b Call4Ideas 2019, chosen by a committee made up of executives from the BNP Paribas Group and BNP Paribas Cardif, university professionals in the field of digital technologies and experts, will present their innovative ideas during the final event to be held in Milan at the end of November. The winners will be supported by BNP Paribas Cardif R&D team in the development and implementation of their project, taking into account the needs of the market and the Company.
Even during this 2019 edition, the contest will be supported by Medici powered by Let’s Talk Payments LCC, a global advisory and scouting company for insurtech and fintech startups. All finalists will be included in the Medici database and will be provided with a set of specific marketing services. In addition, the shortlisted projects will be submitted to C Entrepreneurs Fund, the venture capital fund of BNP Paribas Cardif which, together with Cathay Innovation, aims to accelerate Company innovation through investments in early stage start-ups, and included in the Open Innovation Scoop platform of BNP Paribas Group International Financial Services, used within the Group to share, manage and promote cooperation with start-ups.
