After the tragic impact of the coronavirus on the car industry in the first months of the year (in April -97% of car registrations, due to the traffic shutdown and the closure of dealerships), which of course also involved insurance companies, signs of recovery are now appearing. According to Segugio.it, sales of new and second-hand cars and motorcycles, and with them also third party liability policies, have started to recover. The market has almost caught up with 2019, but it is expected to go even better, because among the trends of the new smart mobility there is a revival of the private car.

Concerns about contagion and possible contact with the virus have given rise to much reluctance to use taxis and shared cars (car pooling and car sharing). A real waste, considering that such forms of mobility in several Italian cities with high traffic and pollution rates, such as Milan, were a real green solution. But perhaps not all is gone, since new technological solutions are emerging to deal with the need to sanitize the passenger compartments.

Octo, better known to insurers as Octo Telematics, the leading provider of telematics services and advanced data analysis solutions for the insurance industry, has just launched OCTO PurePlace, a solution that uses no less than the nano technology originally developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a photokalitic oxidation system that eliminates viruses, bacteria, fungi, and odors and volatile organic pollutants in the air and on surfaces. It is a non-invasive solution, easy to install, safe for people and all materials commonly found inside the vehicle. In addition to the OCTO Purifier device, the OCTO PurePlace solution consists of an on-board telematics device (OCTO Smartdiag or OCTO Supereasy) and an application compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

OCTO PurePlace is designed to protect drivers and passengers of corporate fleets, rental fleets, car sharing operators, taxis and private vehicles. It allows an easy and effective sanitization of vehicles during the journey through occasional self-activation and, at the end of each journey, through a complete sanitization cycle. To ensure absolute safety, before entering the vehicle, both the driver and the passenger can be informed about the sanitization status through the App. The car sharing operator or Fleet Manager, if the sanitization is not complete, can arrange for the vehicle to be temporarily stopped.
