“This year Open-F@b Call4Ideas was an even more exciting experience thanks to the opportunity to renew our support to start-ups in a particularly difficult moment for them to show great resilience” – said Isabella Fumagalli, Head of Territory for Insurance in Italy at BNP Paribas Cardif – “The totally digital format of the challenge has managed to reflect the very nature of the contest, based on the concept of the Next Normal, our new normality going to be further enhanced by technology. This crisis is likely to deliver a great capital: the urge to innovate, with a strong sustainability factor. A new challenge facing us as insurers. The most important and fascinating part of our work is actually understanding the present while imagining the future with new and more accessible and integrated solutions to people’s emerging needs, so as to better protect and make them feel better.”

Open-F@b Call4Ideas 2020: the winning projects

The projects of COP – Chi Odia Paga, Keyless and Nubentech have stood out for having shown a strong digital ripeness, focusing on innovation and simplicity and being able to better address current issues such as bullying, cyber security and health..

Chi Odia Paga

COP – Chi Odia Paga is a legaltech startup created to defend victims of online hatred. Nowadays this is the sole startup with a social vocation supporting educational projects on online hate, preventing it and offering to haters’ targets all the IT, legal and psychological support services that victims need to protect themselves. The aim is to prevent hatred upstream with education and to stop haters downstream with the law. In September 2020 it has already funded the first projects against cyberbullying.

In the Next Normal, there is no longer any difference between offline and online life. There is only a single dimension of our identity: we are all ON LIFE. And in this ONLIFE existence the insults, threats, harassment and blackmail that come from the internet must be managed with the same effectiveness and efficiency we are used to have in the real world since dealing with what happens ONLINE with OFFLINE services is neither effective nor efficient. COP – Chi Odia Paga is the first legaltech startup in Italy to transform the digital from an offense to a defense tool.

The team of COP – Chi Odia Paga is composed by Francesco Inguscio, Francesco Grotta, Cristina Moscatelli, Luca Vizzielli, Sara Farruggia, Ida Larussa, Matteo Miglietta.

Keyless

Keyless is a deeptech cybersecurity company that has built the world’s first platform for biometric authentication and personal identity management while protecting privacy. The biometric solution eliminates the need to store and manage sensitive information, allowing companies to adopt password-free authentication, protect their remote workforce and enable robust client authentication at a glance.  Founded in 2019, it achieved a $2.2 million round in July.

Keyless knows that the future demands privacy and security and that customers are looking for holistic, future-proof solutions that provide complete coverage of their security gaps. That’s why the company creates a product that stands out from the competition both technically and commercially. Keyless is the first project to combine “multiparty computing” (which improves privacy) and “zero knowledge testing”, with multimodal biometrics and user behavior modeling, to provide multichannel biometric authentication on all platforms and devices.

Andrea Carmignani, Fabian Eberle, Paolo Gasti, Giuseppe Ateniese are part of the Keyless team.

Morphogram

Nubentech is an innovative startup that develops digital solutions in the field of nutrition, with the aim of simplifying the prevention of problems related to obesity and lifestyle.

95% of diets fail and, according to Nubentech experience, this failure is due to the lack of solutions that allow to visit patients remotely. In addition, the market for nutritional counseling is extremely fragmented and linked to territorial connotations and, consequently, not very scalable. The proposed solution aims to create an ecosystem of solutions for professionals and individuals through Morphogram, the digital solution enabling the analysis of body composition, even remotely; and Nutritionist in Cloud.it, the first vertical marketplace on nutrition allowing to scale the market of nutritional counseling.

The team that worked on the project is composed by Andrea De Cristofaro, Paolo De Cristofaro, Cristian Currò, Fabio De Cristofaro, Giuseppe Mallamaci.

How the winners will implement their project

The 3 winners will be supported by BNP Paribas Cardif R&D team in the development and implementation of their project, which will be integrated in the Company products or offering models. Also this year they will be presented in C. Entrepreneurs Fund, the venture capital fund of BNP Paribas Cardif and will be included in the Open Innovation Scoop platform of BNP Paribas Group International Financial Services hub.

In these seven editions of Open-F@b Call4Ideas, around 500 applications – many from abroad – have been submitted and around 80 innovative ideas have been selected, leading to several partnerships and the implementation of at least one project per year, with a total investment of around one million euros.
