According to a MISE report referring to the first quarter of 2020, the innovative startups in Italy with a prevalence of women are 1,494, 13.3% of the total and the innovative startups in which at least one woman is present in the social structure are 4,831, 43.1% of the total. A figure not yet satisfactory but certainly improving compared to some years ago.

Gender gap in business and digital is core to the MIA – Miss In Action initiative, this year at its second edition; it aims to support women interested in entrepreneurial innovation and is promoted by Digital Magics, the most important business incubator in Italy, together with the Italian BNP Paribas Group, with the support of the Municipality of Milan.  With a call, MIA has shortlisted three winning startups who then have accessed a six-month acceleration program, where the entrepreneurs would be supported by mentors and experts to finalize their project and create a PoC (Proof Of Concept).  More than 100 startups applied for the Call for Innovation this year, opened on November 15, 2019, 11 took to the Finals and the Jury chose: Coder Kids, Ghostwriter.AI, StageAir.

“Leveraging circular multi-industry ecosystem approaches, tailored to people’s rising needs, to provide fast and effective solutions, will be even more crucial to pave the way for a social and economic relaunch in this new phase. MIA startups have proven flexibility and quickness in refitting new ideas to new real-life settings, focusing on the needs experienced in recent daily life combined with their female, digital and entrepreneurial mindset. Technology for sure is going to be our “new standard” yet the projects shortlisted as finalists reveal how people are always the focus of everything, an essential value to redesign our future together and give value back to the society.” said Isabella Fumagalli, CEO of BNP Paribas Cardif and Coordinator of BNP Paribas IFS for Italy.
