There’s few more days to apply to Open-F@b Call4Ideas 2021, the eighth edition of the BNP Paribas Cardif contest promoted in collaboration with, focused on “More Accessible Insurance” to broaden the possibilities of services, customers, experience, interaction and comprehensiveness related to the insurance industry nowadays and, more so, to shape the insurance industry of the future.

The deadline for startups, scaleups, young students and innovative companies based in Italy to apply for the contest and submit their ideas has been extended to September 30. The startups selected will present their proposals in a digital battle that will take place in October 2021, after an initial online selection by a Committee made up of BNP Paribas Group and BNP Paribas Cardif executives in Italy, academic professionals in the field of digital technologies and experts. The ten finalist startups will then take the spotlight at the closing event in November. The winners will be invited to visit BNP Group’s innovation centers in Paris and join BNP Paribas Cardif’s R&D team in developing and implementing their project, with market and Company needs in mind.

After having dealt in the past editions with topics such as Customer Acquisition, Internet of Things and Big Data, Customer Experience and Preventive Insurance, Innovation with Positive Social Impact, Human Data Science and Next Normal, 2021 will be devoted to the pursuit of the most innovative solutions to get “More Accessible Insurance”.

In the past seven editions Open-F@b Call4Ideas met with great success: about 500 applications were submitted – many from abroad – about 80 innovative ideas were selected, leading to a number of collaborations and the implementation of at least one project per year, and about one million euros were invested overall. A result which mirrors BNP Paribas Cardif commitment to an innovation focused on the person giving back real value to the entire community, from customers to employees and other stakeholders. An innovation based on inclusion, sharing, concreteness and exchange of knowledge, changing the way of insuring.

Open-f@b Call4Ideas 2021, what’s new

The finalist projects of the 2021 edition will be introduced to C. Entrepreneurs Fund, BNP Paribas Cardif’s venture capital fund with Cathay Innovation, which aims to accelerate the Company’s innovation through investments in early stage startups, and included in the SCOOP platform employed in BNP Paribas’ Open Innovation infrastructure ecosystem to share, manage and promote cooperation with startups.

Among this year’s news there is also the possibility for two members of each winning team to present their project and interact with other start-ups hosted at BivwAk! the Paris-based internal incubator of the BNP Paribas Group. Thanks to the partnership with PNICube – an association with 50 members including universities and academic incubators that brings together Italian incubators and academic business plan competitions, set up with the aim of encouraging the launch of new companies with a high knowledge content of university origin supporting them on the market – this year the call will also be extended to the younger generation in a more widespread manner throughout the territory. PNICube will participate in the selection of some of the startups involved in the digital battle and will be present with a member of the panel of judges in the final.
