Last year, Almonds and Together won the Parisian final round of the BNP Paribas Group International Hackathon, the startup international competition announced two years ago by the financial group which took place at the same time worldwide in 10 cities: Rome, Berlin, Brussels, Istanbul, Luxembourg, Nankin, Paris, San Francisco, Singapore, Warsaw.
The goal of the high tech marathon is to create and develop high technology solutions, in partnership with industry experts from BNP Paribas, aiming at improving customer experience in banking sector. Hence the main theme of the 2017competition: “Let’s create a state of the art customer experience”.
From its first edition BNP Paribas International Hackathon engaged 313 startups, 57 in 5 cities worldwide in 2015, 96 in 8 cities in the second edition, and 160 in 10 cities in 2017. Only in Italy, from the first edition in 2015, nearly 120 “startuppers” with about 40 startups attended the event.
The first Italian session of the competition took place June 9 to 11 in Rome, at the headquarters of the LUISS ENLABS international business accelerator: the expert jury of the BNP Paribas Group and LUISS ENLABS was introduced to 15 working groups which have shown their projects.
Five teams have been selected with the most interesting, original and sustainable ideas gaining the access to the second phase scheduled for December 1st in Paris.
Startups will receive a € 7,000 grant in support of the further implementation of their work and will have access to the co-working step where, thanks to the BNP Paribas network of professionals, they will be given the possibility to develop a prototype of their ideas.
ITALIAN PROJECTS
– BBBoyz has realized “BNL BOON”, the Web App that offers retail customers of BNL specific pathways to realize projects related to personal needs. It can also be extended to other family members.
– Mendua presented BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions the first online marketplace for leasable operating assets.
– SpidChain (a startup dealing with decentralized digital identity on blockchain) developed an App for Identity Matching and profiling for Wealth Management Prospects. This also allows easy interoperability of user-certified information across all network companies.
– GoSherpy – with Nois3 and Maître – designed an omnichannel digital tool allowing private clients to receive the most suitable investment opportunities customized on profile, goals and interests, while the Private Banker can enrich the “dashboard” keeping also into account non-financial assets and customer profile.
– BankonVR is developing an interaction tool with the bank that at any time keeps in touch private clients with a Virtual Reality Bank Advisor to receive information on services and products in an interactive and customized way.
BBBoyz and Mendua have won with their solutions to retail customers (BNL) and Leasing (for BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions) respectively.
Spidchain, GoSherpy and BankonVR were successful in Wealth Management, that in Italy reports to BNL-BNP Paribas Private Banking.
During the “Demo Days” of Hackathon 2017 on December 1st in Paris, the finalists from the 10 cities engaged in the contest will present their project to an international jury made of BNP Paribas Executive Committee members and FinTech experts.
The winning startups will be rewarded with € 10,000 and will have the opportunity to realize their idea through an ad hoc partnership with BNP Paribas.
